Christmas Charity 2014

The Barnes Montessori chose the PADDOCK SCHOOL CAFÉ for their Christmas Charity. The Paddock School is a special school in Roehampton for students aged 11 – 19 with severe learning difficulties. Please visit the Cafe on Wednesday and Thursday mornings – www.paddock.wandsworth.sch.uk

The Café has two aims:

Firstly to provide work experience for older students. The students are taught the many skills of working in a café: to carry a tray, work the till, clear the tables, take orders to customers, wash up and make the food that is sold in the café.

At the Barnes Montessori Nursery the children are learning these skills on a daily basis. Some of the youngsters at the Paddock School struggle with these skills due to their learning difficulties and disabilities.

Secondly, the students are actively providing a service for the local community. The Café showcases the abilities of young people with learning difficulties rather than just focusing on their disabilities.

After our Christmas Concert the nursery auctioned a few things and had a cake stall. With the generosity of parents, grandparents and carers who contributed in many ways the grand total of £1652.10 was raised.

Many much needed items have already been purchased to help the Cafe. A huge thank you to all.
